GRAZ
is the regional capital of the Austrian
province of Steiermark.
It offers all amenities and has a medieval centre with interesting
narrow streets. It is a university town with museums, art galleries and
a host of interesting things to see and do. There is a newly modernised
regional airport on the edge of Graz with links to the whole of Europe.

What is "District heating" ?
The environmental policy in the whole of Austria is to reduce dependency
on oil for central heating. The authorities, therefore, are
building communal central heating plants in all areas and which burn waste wood,
bark, chippings etc. i.e. a carbon neutral system. These central
heating plants pump hot water around the villages and residents then
enjoy far cheaper central heating than they could from a private oil
fired system. The system in German is called "Fernwarmung"
(heating at a distance) which roughly translates as district heating.
